RBE-Part 3-About the right brain

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift”
-Albert Einstein

Human beings have two brains-the left brain and the right brain. In the past, the right brain was believed to work in the same manner as the left brain. However, we have since learnt that the right brain has amazing functions. By developing the right brain, unlimited capabilities can also be developed. Conventional education methods have dealt only with the left brain since the right brain’s functions were not known. In reality, the right brain functions at a higher and more spiritual level.

Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein attributed their extraordinary success to this one personality trait-intuition. In his much discussed biography by Walter Issacson, Steve Jobs reflects-"The people in the Indian countryside don’t use their intellect like we do, they use their intuition instead, and this intuition is far more developed than in the rest of the world… Intuition is a very powerful thing, more powerful than intellect, in my opinion. That’s had a big impact on my work."

So, what is intuition?

The dictionary defines intuition as “the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning”. It is beyond the mental process of conscious thinking, as the conscious thought cannot necessarily access subconscious information, or render such information into a communicable form.

When we seek to know about the external world, the dominant habit is through arriving at truths about things via what our senses convey to us. However, perceiving through intuitive knowledge means going beyond your senses to experience the world. This intuitive knowledge was common to older humans (Vedic) and later was taken over by reason which currently organises our perception, thoughts and actions; resulting from Vedic to metaphysical philosophy and later to experimental science. The consciousness of human beings is believed to be in increasing order from basic animal instincts to intelligence and intuition, intuition being the ultimate aim of humanity.

The brain begins developing first from the right brain when the child is still in his mother’s womb. During these early stages of the right brain, the left brain has not yet started functioning well and the right brain holds the dominant position. From ages 3 to 6, the dominant position gradually shifts from the right to the left. At the age of 6, the left brain begins to suppress the right brain and takes the dominant position. That’s the reason it’s important to take advantage of the early predominance of the right brain.

There are differences in the functions of the two brains. The right brain(or the intuitive brain) functions unconsciously, and is called the unconscious brain. The left brain functions consciously and is hence called the conscious brain. It is in this unconscious brain that you’ll find the hidden miraculous functions.

Human beings by nature have special right brain ability circuits. These circuits cannot be used unless we are aware of them. We have great capabilities that are left dormant.

So how should we develop this dormant potential capability? The basic functions of both the left and the right brains are controlled by the five senses. When the five sensory circuits for the right brain are developed, the right brain’s capability and intelligence circuits will be developed at the same time. The right brain is the ‘image’ brain. The right brain’s information medium are images which are a sort of language for the right brain. Some of the right brain super functions include photographic memory, computer-like calculation ability, perfect pitch, excellence in sports, creativity, superior IQ, linguistic skills, etc.

Poor school grades are usually a result of the poorly functioning left brain. If the right brain’s capabilities are developed, any child can receive good grades. Children may be different in terms of left brain capabilities, however, every child possesses the genius of the right brain. In terms of the right brain, every child is equal.
